| What’s the Truth About Emo History??
It’s honestly hard to pick out an incident or person as the one single origin of Emo. If you try to trace it to one particular rock band, they will state that they don’t even consider themselves Emo, so it’s a confusing subject. But for our purposes, let’s look at the traditional explanation: Most people trace the movement back to 1984 when Rites of Spring, a punk rock band, began performing in D.C. The lead singer departed from most other punk music by producing songs that practically oozed with emotional words. This made it more acceptable for those in the punk-rock community to be open about their feelings–and so, other bands soon followed This music reached more and more young people, and these youth became fond of both the performers’ style of dress and their willingness to expose the emotions they felt. Both singers and fans who responded positively to this “emotional” punk music became known as “Emotionals” or “Emotives”–”Emos” for shortEmo girls and emo boys make emo love
Is there really Emo love? Well it is difficult to determine. It is not uncommon to see Emo guys kissing each other, but is this really Emo love. Similarly Emo girls will kiss, and an Emo guy is just as likely to kiss an Emo girl. Emo love may develop because two people into the Emo scene will understand each other, and be sensitive to the feelings of each other, poems may abound, and the words “I love you” may be said more often. This form of Emo love can cause problems, like any other relationship. Emo love may not be everlasting and can break down like any other form of love, it may be difficult but life does go on Emo style gives you emo songs
We continue our series on the best music enjoyed by the Emo community. This is part 14. The last several songs in this series are considered Post-Emo Indie Music–yet highly enjoyed by the new generation of Emos
The Promise Ring released “30 Degrees Everywhere” as LP and CD through Jade Tree Records. This is low-fi and slightly out-of-tune in a cute kind of way. It features warped pop anthems, and yet they’re sweet in an Emo kind of way. Buy this early record, but you might want to avoid later ones, as they tended to be more “in tune” (and therefore, not nearly as unique)
Sunny Day Real Estate released “Diary” as an LP and CD through Sub-Pop. Many Emos consider this to be the ultimate expression of their culture. It’s somewhat like Smashing Pumpkins, with a sleek, expensive production and compressed sound. Listen closer and you’ll detect a blend of hardcore guitars and Emo-inflected vocals, not to mention amazingly busy drumming Emo Hairstyles
There is no right or wrong way on how Emo hairstyles should look, although they do have things in common. Emo hairstyles are usually black in colour interspersed with bright highlights, and normally blonde streaks through the fringe. They are though extremely difficult to maintain and to get a good look could take hours to create. This though should not be a concern because Emo hairstyles are all about having fun. Experimentation though is no bad thing and the right look will normally only come after a number of attempts with Emo hairstylesEmo music for emo boys
Hoover / Lincoln - Their split 7″ released in 1993 is one that anyone who likes anything about the Emo culture simply must have. Everything that was part of the Emo world in 1993 is expressed perfectly in this recording. It features gut-wrenching pain and yet subtle beauty all at once. It’s an amazing musical accomplishment
Lincoln (two separate 7″s). Lincoln’s first was released in 1992, and was intriguing because of its heavy DC personality, along with loud Emo vocals, and yet slowdown parts in the songs’ middle. This was the first group to adopt that style, and after it worked so well for Lincoln, other bands started doing the same screaming style. Lincoln’s second 7″ was “Art Monk Construction #7.” It featured painful screaming that expressed the lyrics in an amazing way. Lincoln’s first is considered rare, so if you have it, consider yourself fortunate. If not, and you can find it, better snatch it and hold onto it!Emo music for emo girls

Christie Front Drive is available from Caulfield Records as both CD and LP. The “Midwest Emo” phenomenon started here, and the Emo Indie Rock trend was launched. Ebullition zine defined it as music that Emos would play when making love
Boy’s Life released “Departures and Landfalls” via Crank! Records on both LP and CD. This one is the essence of Midwest Emo, with mellow tunes that drift in and out, and train whistles from a distance. There is much building up and then easing back. It has much intensity, but is never too harsh
Boy’s Life also had a Christie Front Drive split on CD and 10″. This one has been recently re-released,and features much of the best of both bandsEmo Kids: How Young is Too Young?
Too young to be an Emo kid? Usually when we speak of “Emo kids,” we’re talking about high-schoolers or college students who have adopted the emotionally sensitive, dark-dressing culture as their own. But I’ve heard recently about a trend that emphasizes the “kid” in Emo kid. In other words, more and more children under 13 are getting involved in the lifestyle. While it’s fine for anyone, no matter how young, to choose the hairstyle and clothing style and even the music of the Emos, please keep an eye out for your brothers and sisters and little cousinsThere have been reports of some getting piercings or tattoos or cutting themselves, as per some of the darker Emo trends. Also, kids should wait until they’re a bit older before they start despairing about how terrible life is and how emotionally distraught they are. Emos, talk to your kid siblings and encourage them to be kids first, Emo second best regards from ALKING to all members (f) | |
